NEW‌ – All My Heroes Are Cornballs – JPEGMAFIA (2019)

Damn, Peggy. Just a year and a half after 2018’s Veteran, JPEGMAFIA demonstrates a mastery over the stream-of-consciousness hip-hop vignettes that brought him to the foreground of noise rap. He delivers politically charged and self-aware rhymes over chaotic, well-crafted beats which provide intimate views into the ego of one of hip-hop’s most enigmatic rising stars. Peggy has much to offer fans of Death Grips, later Kanye records, and Danny Brown. 8/10

CLASSIC – Daydream Nation – Sonic Youth (1988)

Album cover/CD insert from the original release.

Opening with the iconic “Teenage Riot,” Sonic Youth’s final release of the 80’s is a magnum opus. Even at an impressive 70 minute run-time, each track feels like a fresh expression of angst, anti-consumerism, and embrace of the seething indie underground’s taste for counterculture. The attitudes and instrumentals of this album are clear influences to the works of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and My Bloody Valentine. Worth multiple listens. Top shelf classic.
